Adorable Onesies Baby Shower Game/Activity Tutorial

One of my sister's-in-law is pregnant with her first child (a baby boy) and I am beside myself excited for her! So, of course, we (another sister-in-law and I) threw her a baby shower to celebrate. Now, this is baby #10 in our family so we have had our fair share of baby showers. Therefore, we have played a multitude of baby shower games and activities over the years and we really had to reach into our back pockets for a fresh, fun, new and creative baby shower game/activity.

The activity/game we settled on was designing and creating onesies. Each shower guest traced and cut a cute little cookie cutter shape onto fabric (both of their choice) and ironed it onto the onesie with iron-on adhesive. The cutters we used were a puppy dog, teddy bear, car, truck, fire truck, cowboy boot, T-Rex, star, airplane and duck. The result was adorable and the shower was a success! All the guests really enjoyed making these little onesies for the mommy and baby to come. After the shower, I machine-sewed around the shape to prevent possible fraying in the wash. Here is how we did it...

What you will need:

• White baby onesies of different sizes and/or bibs - plan for one onesie or bib for each shower guest.
• Cookie cutters of various shapes. You can find individual cookie cutters for purchase at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnn's, Sur La Table, etc. There are also boxes of cookie cutters in every shape imaginable to buy. Then you can have fun making yummy cookies! Bonus!
• Heat n' Bond Iron-On Adhesive - (found at your local fabric and sewing store)
• A variety of fabrics for guests to choose from. If fabric scraps aren't available, look for fat quarters at your local fabric store. They are usually pretty inexpensive.
• An iron and ironing board
• A pencil for tracing
• Scissors

• Have each guest pick out a fabric and shape. It's really fun to see what everybody picks out!
• Have them cut a square big enough for their shape out of the fabric and Heat n' Bond adhesive.
• Iron the cut fabric to the cut Heat n' Bond adhesive following the directions on the packaging. It should only take about 30 seconds to iron the fabric to the adhesive.

• Then, each guest will trace the inside of the cookie cutter onto the fabric. If you trace the shape onto the adhesive on the backside of the fabric, the shape will end up backwards.
• Then Cut the shape out and peel the paper backing off the adhesive and place the shape onto the onesie

• Iron the shape to activate the adhesive. Again, it should only take about 30 seconds for the shape to be permanently fixed to the onesie.

• And you are done!!!!

After everybody was finished with their creation, we took a group picture of each guest holding the onesie they made so mommy knows who made which onesie! A great idea for the memory book too.

After the baby shower, I took the onesies home and machine-stitched a zig-zag stitch around each shape to prevent fraying in the wash and to extend life. Tie a cute little ribbon around it and you have a memorable and practical gift to give to the mommy-to-be from all her friends and family!
